Properties that have been designated as landmarks or have received grants from the State are subject to some restrictions on future alteration. Before alterations to designated landmarks is undertaken, the State must be notified and given an opportunity to advise.
In addition to its programs of recognition, the State of Texas administers a historic preservation grant program, as well as participating in certifying projects for eligibility for federal tax credits.
Grants from the Texas Preservation Trust Fund are awarded annually. These grants are reimbursements for projects undertaken for historic preservation. Typically the state will require the granting of a historic preservation easement in exchange for receiving a grant towards historic preservation. More information on the program is also in a brochure published by the Commission.
